The map window is nice and colorful these days with some great pics. Some of you have really taken advantage of the cool photo editing capabilities built into radius. For those of you that haven’t seen these, here’s a reminder of what you can do.
Zoom on the Fly - When you upload a picture, you can use the zoom slider to zoom into a particular part of the picture. Try moving the slider left and right to see this. When you click apply the photo will be displayed the way it appears in the preview pane.
Drag the Photo - You can also move the picture around to focus on a particular part of it. Do this by clicking on the photo and dragging it around. Use this in combination with zooming to get your pics looking just right.
Pick your Icon - You can make any photo your icon. Do this by clicking the ‘my icon’ radio button on the pic you want. You’ll see a little my icon square show up. This is what your icon will actually look like.
Hope this helps and that more of you will upload some cool pics. As always, pass along any feedback.

Many people have asked us how to invite their friends to radius. The easiest way to do it is to click the Add+Invite icon in the Friends List. This is the little guy with a plus sign next to him. Here you can type in email addresses for your friends and send them an invitation message. When they sign up, they’ll be automatically added to your friend list.
We’re working on cool stuff like importing your contacts and letting you pick who you want to invite. If anyone has good ideas around this do let us know.

One of the coolest things on radius is seeing where your friends are and who else is around. To keep it fun, we give you total control over your location. You can let your friends know where you are by using the ‘my location’ window. Clicking the globe icon in the map toolbar gets you there.
The ‘my location’ window lets you type in an address or you can just move the ‘me’ bubble around to position yourself. You can also save frequent locations like school and home by checking the ‘save location as’ box and typing in a name. When you’re done, just click the ‘Done’ button and you’ll be all set.
Let us know how it’s working for you.

It’s release time again and since we didn’t want to steal Apple’s iPhone thunder we waited until MacWorld was over to announce the great new stuff. This time around we focused on a new look and feel, usability and more speed.
Highlights:
SPEED! We’ve been working hard to optimize the application over the past few weeks. You’ll notice a big improvement in performance. Everything from logging in to messaging has been souped-up.
Wide is the new square! We love the whole widescreen revolution so we made some changes to the map window to give it that slick HD look. You’ll also notice a new toolbar on the map window and friend list. Be sure to click on the cool new icons to get the most out of radiusIM.
You can now IM Anyone. Click the IM Anyone icon in the Friend List and it will launch a window where you can type in an IM username on any network and send them an IM.
A new and improved Status Bar. The Status Bar now has colored indicators so you know what state you’re in and the text entry box for editing your custom messages is much easier to use.
There’s more great stuff on the way so keep an eye out and be sure to let us know what you’d like to see in the app by clicking the feedback link.

We spent the last few weeks polishing off our latest release which went live on the 25th. It’s got some great new stuff that adds speed, stability and some cool new features.
Highlights:
The Messaging Windows are MUCH faster and have some slick new features. The grey title bar now has an icon to remind you what network you’re messaging on and you can size the pane where you type messages by dragging the three dots.
The application is much more stable in general and you’ll see some big improvements in keeping your connection alive.
There are some new graphics in the friend list and reliability of AIM away messages is much better.
There’s also a cool new ‘Zoom to Location’ feature. Right click (CTRL+click on Safari) on a picture in the grid and you can select ‘Zoom to Location.’ This will zoom the map right to the location of that person. Give it a whirl, it’s really cool.
And a slew of bug fixes to make using radius much easier.
The next release will be in a week or two and include:
MORE SPEED! We’re making some changes to the app which will make it run much faster..especially in IE.
Some tweaks to the look and feel. With each new release we take a fresh look at the app and think of ways to make it easier to use. Look for some new graphics that should make things more intuitive.
Improved support for ICQ and Jabber.
Thanks again for the support and PLEASE pass along some feedback by clicking the feedback link

Some of you have asked if radius lets you log your IM conversations. The answer is yes! All you have to do is click the ‘my settings’ button in the friend list. You’ll see a setting to ‘Log all my IMs on radiusIM’s secure server.’ It’s turned off by default, but if you’re looking to relive some of your memorable radius convos then be sure to turn it on.
We’re also kicking around ideas on how to display the logs better so pass along any great ideas.
Happy holidays everyone!

We’re really excited to see a growing community of people from all over the world using radius every day. The encouragement has been great and it’s really motivating us to bring radius to the next level and incorporate all those ‘must have’ features. We thought we’d list put up a list of features that are coming up most often. Please feel free to let us know what else is a must have so we can get it in the queue. The plan is to knock out as many as we can over the next few months.
Nicknames – We know it’s way cooler to have your nickname up there as opposed to an email address. This is a big one.
Multi User Chat – Get in on those big chat rooms. We hear about this a lot and it’s definitely in the works.
Better Search – Make it easier to find your friends on radius.
Locate me automatically – Some people have asked for us to automatically put them on the map based on where we think they are. That would be very cool. Let us know who else would be into this.
Leave a comment and let us know what we’re missing!

These days we’re hard at work moving radius closer and closer to beta and today’s release is a big step in the right direction. We’re excited to share it with everyone and hear what you guys have to say.
Highlights of the release today are:
- More love for the Safari web browser crowd - works much better!
- Easier sign-up process - less info from you and get to the app right away
- Timestamps for offline messages - good to know when they were sent
- Login is WAY faster
- IMing on the other networks (AIM, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, GTalk) is much more stable
- Cool lat/long URL so you can auto update your location when you log in. This link, for example, positions you at Whistler after you login.
As always, pass along any feedback and let us know if you see anything funky.

Ok, you all asked for it so here it is. We’re going to start posting things like cool developments at radius, new application features and of course our occasional rants on everything from the virtues of our neighborhood to why your friends on a map is so frickin’ cool.
Look for posts every few days and like I said we’ll try and keep things informative, funny and hopefully both. And shoot us a comment or two. We’re always looking to get to know the users better.
